Step 3: Gather Documents and Complete Forms

You need: pay stubs (6 months), tax returns (2 years), bank statements, loan documents, property records, and a list of all creditors.

Step 4: File the Petition

File with the bankruptcy court in your district. The automatic stay takes effect immediately.

Step 5: 341 Meeting of Creditors

20-40 days after filing. The trustee asks questions under oath. Usually 5-15 minutes.

Step 7: Receive Your Discharge

Ch.7: ~60 days after 341 meeting. Ch.13: after all plan payments (3-5 years).
